Geronimo Stilton and the Kingdom of Fantasy - Book Review

This book is written by a mouse called Geronimo Stilton, born in New Mouse City, in Mouse Land. This book is very interesting. It includes riddles, maps, secret codes, bright colorful pictures and very nice recipes to cook. Whether I read it in day or night, in light or dark, its colors are bright. I very much enjoyed this book.

It is about Geronimo's great adventure to the Kingdom of Fantasy. The day Geronimo got a letter from the fairy queen Blossom for help, he couldn't understand a word because it was written in the fantasian alphabet. This includes one of the secret codes in the book.

This kingdom is very far, you have to cross six kingdoms to get to the kingdom of the fairies, altogether the seven kingdoms and many other gigantic places form the Kingdom of Fantasy. Geronimo found a golden staircase at his attic. He had to pass the kingdom of witches, mermaids, dragons, pixies, gnomes, giants and at last the Kingdom of Fairies. But first of all he met a frog who was so silly that told Geronimo was a brave knight. He was a scribbling frog.

He scribbled in his notebook, "Through the golden door came a knight and shining armor, Sir. Geronimo of Stilton. He was tall, handsome and mighty with proud blue eyes and radiant blond fur. He was wearing a silver armor, which glimmered in the light of the moon. And his sword was so radiant".

Geronimo said, "I didn't have a radiant blond fur and I wasn't a knight. And first of all I was a scaredy mouse. And why did the queen ask me to help her?"

Scribble hopper asked Geronimo ferociously, "Now, are you going to save the queen or not?"

Geronimo said, "I am not a knight and I don't want to save a queen".

Geronimo turned back and went through the golden door but one by one the golden stairs disappeared. So he had to help the queen. Passing the six kingdoms when he went to the witches' castle, the fortress of fear, Geronimo saw a bunch of stinky feet. When he went to the mermaids, they treated him well and he could breathe under water. In the dragon's kingdom the dragons were very mean to him and the kingdom was filled with smoke. Ew! The pixies were troublemakers and changed their names every day. The giants' kingdom was very cold. Princess Scatterbrain (a friend who helped him in the kingdom of dragons is a dragon herself) couldn't breathe fire for one whole day because of the kingdom of giants. In the kingdom of the trolls they troubled them a lot. They were the servants of the witches. At last they were at the fairies after crossing the gnomes.

He served queen Blossom of the fairies well for a month. But he had to go home to New Mouse City. He said goodbye to all his friends and promised them that he would come back soon. He wrote a book about his adventure.

I appreciate Geronimo's work. If you would like you can read the book. I was impressed by the riddles, maps and secret codes. Please tell me how you felt about the book after reading it.

The Little House in the Big Woods - Book Review

It's a fiction written by Laura Ingalls Wilder but it's mentioned that it's a story from the olden days. When we looked up in Goodreads for the best books for eight year olds, we found a book titled "The Little House on the Prairie" on the top of the list. We realised that it's the second book in this series and the first book is this one - "The Little House in the Big Woods" so went ahead and bought this one first.

The book was about a family which lived in the Wisconsin woods. There was baby Carrie, a little girl named Laura and a bigger girl that was Mary. Laura and Mary called their father Pa and Mother Ma. Most of the relatives also live in the woods.

Every winter and autumn, Pa goes hunting and every spring and summer, Pa, Ma, and the children go to grandpa’s house and Pa goes with Uncle Henry, Uncle George and Grandpa to collect tree sap. Grandpa's house deeper in the Wisconsin woods. So Pa and Ma go there very rarely. In spring time, Ma and her two sisters decide to throw a feast. They pick all the fresh fruits and vegetables from Grandma's garden. When sugar snow comes, Grandma heats up the tree sap which Uncle George, Uncle Henry, Pa and Grandpa have collected throughout the year. The children take a bit of snow and put it on their plates. When Grandma pours tree sap on the snow, it becomes tree sap candy. The story goes on like this.

My favourite characters were Ma and Mary. Because they are exemplary and ultimate entertainers for myself. They did their job perfectly. From this book, I have learnt whether I live in a forest or a house I can live happily as life goes on. I meant to say you can live merrily and cheerfully wherever you are.

Imaginary World

Chapter 1-The plan for the adventure
One day, my brother and I were feeling bored. I told my brother we can be explorers. We went in search of my map of the world.

Suddenly my brother Adhiyan said, "I found it."

So we sat down with the map and Adhiyan asked, "Which is the highest mountain in the world?"

I replied, "Mt. Everest".

So we decided to go to Mt. Everest first.

Next he asked, "Which is the longest river in the world?"

I replied "Nile".

So next we decided to go to Nile.

Chapter 2-Packing for the adventure
We started packing up. I took a long box and put in the map, two combs and another comb for safety which we imagined as swords and my old school's id card and imagined it like a pouch of fairy dust. Adhiyan took some books in case we get bored while travelling. We took our dolls along with us - Anju and Adhi.

Chapter 3-Set up for the adventure
We stacked up cushions and pillows to make Mt.Everest so we had to imagine it was a mountain and a mat for Nile.

Chapter 4-Going to Everest
At last we went to the sofa which we imagined as an aeroplane. We took the map and started discussing. After that I read a book to Adhiyan, Anju and Adhi. We got past Mt. Everest. My brother pointed to it, we landed there and we climbed it up.

Chapter 5-Sword fight
We had a sword fight at Mt. Everest. My sword almost fell down. Adhiyan's sword fell down so I won. Yay! It's okay because I gave the safety sword to him.

Chapter 6-Going to Nile
We had a good time at Mt. Everest. But we went to the aeroplane and we started discussing again. Then we played with our toys. At last we landed at Nile.

Chapter 7-Swimming race
We gave Adhi and Anju a swimming race. Adhi won this time. Yay! We all swam together.

Chapter 8-End of the adventure
Sad to go home. We decided to have a little fun. I gave some some fairy dust to Adhiyan and we flew back home.

Daddy the Hero

I met a little girl and asked -
"Do you know who is dad?"
"No, who is he?", she asked
"He wears shirt, coat and tie", I said
"If he is a hero, he has to have a cape to fly, super strength and many more powers", she said
"He is not a hero who has all these; he is a hero in heart", I told her
"I can't believe in you; prove me that he is a hero", she said
"OK, come on", I said and took her to my dad

She understood before I said, "see my proof"
She said, "my hero is fake and yours is real"

I just smiled at her and winked at my dad!

The Power of Knowledge

Knowledge can save you from anything

Even if you got stuck in a deadly sea
You can make a boat out of knowledge

And BOOM!
Your problem is solved

You look around yourself
No injuries!

I told you, you would get out safe!

The Recipe for a Good Life

First add four pounds of pure kindness
A bowl full of patience will be worthy later on
Well, bragging will mess up the taste
Knowledge is an important ingredient in this type of food
Knowledge can cure any illness that you may have
Don't weigh love
Pour it anyway
Any amount of it can only make it better

The Beautiful Sky

The moon is shining bright in the sky
With all the stars over the night time
I wish I was up in the sky
With the crescent shaped moon
And all the twinkling stars

The sun is shining bright in the sky
With all the clouds in the day time
I wish I was up in the sky
With the powerful sun
And all the moving clouds

My Magical Conversation with the Solar System

My dad asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday. He gave me two options. He asked me if I wanted to go to our favorite temple in Hosur or an orphanage in Bangalore to celebrate my birthday. I liked both the options but I had another wish, too. I wanted to go around the universe and have conversation with all the planets.

The universe is full of exciting things. One of those exciting things is the “Solar System”. To me, the Solar System looks like a family and the Sun is the head of the family.

I told my family and relatives to come along with me. I am excited to meet the members of the “Solar” family. Would you like to join me during my journey? Please come. Let’s go and meet them.

First let’s meet the Sun. He is the head of the family, right?!

I first spoke to the Sun, “Hello Mr. Sun, I am Anjana from Bangalore. I would like to meet all your family members and have a conversation with each one of them. Can you please introduce yourself and your family members to us?”

The Sun nodded its head and said to me, “Sure, Anjana. Thanks for visiting us today. I am Sun. I am a big burning ball of fire. People think I am alone but that’s not right.  I am not alone. Just like you, I have a family too. My family and I together are called the ‘Solar System’. Let me introduce my family of eight planets to you, friends. The first member of our family is Mercury. Next is, Venus. After that, you can see we have Earth where you live. And then, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Each of my family members will talk to you about themselves. They are excited to meet you too.”

I said, “Thank you, Sun” and turned towards Mercury. Mercury talked about itself, “Hello Anjana, I am Mercury, the first member of the solar system. I am very close to my dad. I don’t have any moons. I am the smallest planet of the family. Now I am going to call my sister and neighbor Venus!” and called Venus.

I said to Mercury, “Thank you!” and looked at Venus.

Venus talked about itself, “Hello Anjana, I am Venus, the second member of the solar system. I am the hottest planet of the family. I don’t have any moons like my brother and neighbor Mercury. I am a neighbor of Earth as well. Now it’s Earth’s turn to talk about itself!” and looked at Earth.

I said to Venus, “Amazing fact!” and turned towards Earth too.

Earth talked about itself, “Hello Anjana, I am Earth. You all know me because you live on me. Nice meeting you along with my family members. If you don’t mind, please listen to my advice for a minute. You shouldn’t pollute me. You should be polite to me. Because, I don’t like being polluted and abused like this. I am tired of being polluted. Not just you, please stop others also from doing this to me. I am also called the blue planet because I have a lot of water on my surface. Let me call my neighbor Mars now.”

I said to Earth, “I am so sorry, Earth. I will be careful from now onwards. I will advise my friends also!” and looked at Mars.

Mars talked about itself, “Hello Anjana, I am Mars. I am the fourth planet of the solar system. I am also called the red planet because I am filled with red rocks. Next, my neighbor Jupiter is the biggest planet of all. Let me call him for a conversation with you!” and waved its hand at Jupiter.

I said to Mars, “I am excited to talk with Jupiter because my house name is Jupiter in my school!” and gave a friendly smile to Jupiter.

Jupiter also smiled at me and talked about itself, “As my brother and neighbor Mars told you, I am the biggest planet of the solar system. I am filled with gas so no one can step on me. Even my sister and neighbor Saturn is a gas planet just like me. I hope you want to have a conversation with him too. Bye!” and invited Saturn.

I said to Jupiter, “I would really like to explore you but you are full of gas so I am not sure if I could do that!” and turned towards Saturn.

Saturn talked about itself, “Hello Anjana, I am Saturn. I am a beautiful planet because of my rings. My rings are made out of ice particles and so most of the people like me. And, as Jupiter told you, I am also a gas planet. Now, talk with Uranus. He likes to talk a lot!” and called Uranus.

I said to Saturn, “Thank you, Saturn. You are my favorite planet!” and looked at Uranus.

Uranus talked about itself, “Hello Anjana, I am Uranus. Most people think I have rings around me. Yes, I do. But, they are very light. So no one can see them. I love to talk. How about you?” and looked into my eyes.

I smiled and said to Uranus, “Even I like to talk, Uranus. So, are there any other planets?”

Uranus told me: “Yes, there is one more planet to talk to you. He has been waiting for a long time. Go on. Talk to him!” and left way for Neptune.

Unlike other planets, Neptune stayed little away from me and talked about itself, “Hello Anjana, I have been waiting for you for long time. I have had many conversations with many other people. If you want to know more about me, let me talk about myself now. I am the last planet of the solar system. Because I am so far away from my dad, Mr. Sun, I am very cold. You cannot stay on me. On Earth, plants, people, animals and many more creatures live but it’s not the same with me. I don’t have any warmth so you can look at me from far but don’t come near me, please!”

I said to Neptune, “Sure, Neptune. Thanks for letting us know this. We won’t live on you. But see you soon. Goodbye!” and came back to Sun.

Sun asked me, “How did you like your journey?”

I said to the sun, “Dear Sun, thank you for inviting me. I had a good time learning new things about your family – the solar system. I would like to come again when I am free. This is like a magical dream. I like you and your family, dear Sun. Now, I have to return to Earth. I will come often here to play with you and your family. Bye! Thank you, dear Sun. I would magically appear every time when I am free. Bye!”

I said to dad, "Thank you a lot. I loved the Sun and its family!"
